With TOYKIT you may play computer games and practice chewing at the same time.. 
When difficulty to chew and the masticatory muscles are weakened it is important to practice the chewing technique and to strengthen the muscles, but this type of training may often be boring and tedious. Therefore a new method has been developed, the aim of which is to increase the motivation and intensity of the training. The training tool of the method is called TOYKIT that makes use of the computer for feedback for the user and for registering the amount of training. When practicing, any program or game may be used. The program can be operated by mouse or switches.
When biting on the chewing-pad, a pneumatic signal will be send to the Puno Box that will the signal into an electrical impulse into a computer. This impulse can consist of a left mouse click, or when using a so called switch box by a keyboard command
There is a register program on the computer, Reg-IT that keeps track of (records) the number of bites on the chewing-pad, the length of the training session and what programs having been used. Before the training session starts, the user logs on to REG-IT and when the session ends statistics from the training session are stored.
The idea of TOYKIT is that it should be possible to operate any program with the chewing-pad. Choice of program is done keeping the user’s condition and interests in mind, but should be such that the chewing-pad has to be chewed on often or for a certain length of time, to enable effective training of the masticatory muscles.
A handbook is enclosed with TOYKIT, which contains necessary information for carrying through the training.
Practicing chewing with TOYKIT is based on a method that has been developed at the Mun-H-Center in Gothenburg, a national orofacial.centre of knowledge of rare diagnoses, Frölunda Data AB, Punos Electronic AB, dental technician Laila Persson and the user organisation Riksförbundet sällsynta diagnoser (the National Association of Rare Diagnoses).
Chewing pads
The chewing-pads come in the models Mia and Per and each model is available in two versions of different chewing resistance. The length of the chewing-pad is 78mm and the diameter is 12mm. The chewing-pad is placed between the occlusal surfaces, so that the point is levelled with the molars (6 and 7)
Technical information
The Puno Box is connected into the mouse port via the PS/2-port. There is also a socket in Puno for an alternative mouse and for connecting a switch box and a switch
Safety
The chewing-pad is made of Dryflex, which is a material approved by the FDA.
